[Recap] Kim Soo Hyun successfully holds full-house 'Eyes On You' fan meeting in Manila

On June 29, renowned South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun returned to the Philippines for a full house event, as part of his ‘Eyes On You’ fan meeting tour. This was followed by his ‘Dunkin’’ fan meeting in January last year.

Loud cheers across the Araneta Coliseum elicited the moment Soo Hyun appeared on the stage after the center LED split in half. He first serenaded the crowd with Crush’s “Love You With All My Heart,” an original soundtrack of the hit drama ‘Queen of Tears’ where Soo Hyun was the lead actor who played the role of Baek Hyun Woo.

Following the conclusion of ‘Queen of Tears’ in April, Soo Hyun (along with his co-lead Kim Ji Won) embarked on his anticipated tour, igniting excitement from fans around the world. The ‘Eyes On You’ fan meeting marked his first one since his ‘1st Memories’ in 2014.

“I was so happy that I was able to come back after 10 years, and even though 10 years had passed, I’m still nervous every time I’m on stage,” he said.

He became emotional during his message to the fans who supported ‘Queen of Tears’ and because he saw how everyone at the venue was smiling. “Because of our love and support for ‘Queen of Tears,’ I was able to do a fan meeting here in the Philippines. Thank you so much.”

The first segment was called “Yongduri Photo Studio,” where the fans who attended got to explore the behind-the-scenes story of some photos he posted on his SNS (When he uploads photos, he puts no captions most of the time).

During the segment, he shared that his favorite season is winter. However, he prefers summer when it comes to outdoor shoots.

“Exclusive! Soo Hyun’s Commentary” was the succeeding segment. Here, some clips from ‘Queen of Tears’ were shown and there were questions for the actor to answer.

The first clip was the iconic car scene when Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun) screamed Hae In (Kim Ji Won)’s name. “When I was looking at her, I felt anger, sadness, a little bit of sorrow. At the same time, I was worried about her health. I also felt sorry for Hae In,” Soo Hyun shared.

Another highlight is that it snowed on stage — a surprise prepared by Soo Hyun for the fans.

There was also a segment where 10 lucky winners drawn from the audience got to participate in a game with Soo Hyun on stage. The winners were grouped into two. All the participating fans got to take a group photo with the actor after the fan meeting. While the winning group, in addition to the photo opportunity, took home a necklace and pouch customized by Soo Hyun himself.

The actor decided to draw six more lucky fans for the photo opportunity and the necklace as fans who weren’t able to participate in the game felt sad afterward. He also gave more fans a chance to have an on-screen selfie with him.

For his vocal performances, he sang The Calling’s “Wherever You Go,” Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” John Legend’s “All of Me,” and “Yodeling.”

“Whenever I come to the Philippines, from the start to the end of the show, everyone is smiling. It makes me feel that I want to enjoy the show as well. Actually, today, the songs I performed weren’t my best performances. But I really gained a lot of strength from you,” he expressed.

“I wanted to give you guys a lot of laughs and a lot of enjoyment today, but it seems I was the one who laughed and enjoyed more. Whenever I’m feeling tired, I need some strength in life. I will remember all these beautiful faces and I will be coming back here to get a lot of strength and support from all of you.”

Before bidding goodbye, he treated the fans once more with his performance of “Way Home.” He said, “Next month, I will be shooting my new drama. I’ll do my best to do great work. I’ll put a lot of effort into the work and try to come back here as well to see you once again. This year, I think I will come back to the Philippines once again. See you then!
