Chaeyeon's Comeback Triggers Massive Fan Uproar — Here's Why

Lee Chaeyeon, known for her electrifying performances, is back after a 10-month hiatus, ready to heat up the summer with her new album, ‘Showdown.’

This marks her return since her first single, ‘The Move: Street,’ released last September. With this album, Chaeyeon aims to showcase her growth as an artist, transcending from being a ‘performance queen’ to an ‘all-rounder queen.’

Fans expressed surprise and concern following the pre-release of ‘Summer Heat,’ with comments like “What’s going on with WM?” and “What’s wrong with WM?” addressing the long wait for new music.

Lee Chaeyeon shared her surprise at these reactions, stating, “I didn’t expect to see these reactions first, but it’s the first one. I think (the public) has been very positive about it.”

The title song ‘Don’t’ is a unique 2-step genre dance track that incorporates the familiar vibrations and ringtones of a cell phone, making it both relatable and intriguing. It explores the duality of breakups, a universal experience.

Lee Chaeyeon showcased her creative talents by participating in both the choreography and lyrics.

“Actually, I didn’t plan to participate in the lyrics for this song, but I think I got greedy. I participated because I wanted to make this song more flavorful and impactful,” she explained.

Creative Involvement and Artistic Growth Chaeyeon personally contributed to the lyrics of ‘Dreaming’ and conceptualized the highlight medley video for ‘Standing On My Own.’

She reflected on her deep involvement in the album, saying, “I’m not good with computers, so I wrote it by hand and printed the photos myself. Some of the ideas were actually reflected, and they listened to my opinions more than I thought. Since I had a high level of participation in this album, I feel attached to it and am confident.”

Reflecting on her evolution, she shared, “When I heard the modifier ‘all-rounder queen,’ I thought the Chaeyeon of 1-2 years ago would have felt very burdened and insecure, but I’m confident now.” She emphasized her dedication to living up to this new title, “While directly participating in this album, I thought the term ‘all-rounder queen’ would suit me better than ‘performance queen.'”

Despite the pressure to innovate, Chaeyeon remains committed to delivering fresh and impactful performances. “I am so grateful, but I would be lying if I said I don’t feel any pressure,” she admitted.

Last April’s release of ‘Knock’ became a surprise hit, not originally intended as a challenge song, but Chae-yeon embraces the unexpected success.

She also received encouragement from close friends and family. “First, my younger sister (Chaeryeong) and I filmed the challenge together,” she said.

Rapper Lee Young-ji also offered support, participating in each other’s challenges and sharing positive feedback. Members of ‘FC Top Girl’ from SBS ‘Goal Kickers’ also expressed their support.

Lee Chae-yeon’s new album ‘Showdown’ promises to captivate fans with its artistic depth and summer-ready vibes. The album will be available at 6 p.m. today, and fans are eagerly awaiting the new journey of this multi-talented star.
