SNSD Tiffany Hints at Reason for Leaving SM: 'I Don't Want To Be Something Someone Told Me To Do'

SNSD Tiffany recalled the reason she left SM Entertainment for the US in 2017. Did she regret her decisions back then?

On June 26, Tiffany Young, a member of the “Nation’s Girl Group” Girls’ Generation, sat down for an interview with Ten Asia to talk about her various activities in the entertainment industry.

During the interview, the reporters were so impressed by her youthful and fresh aura that they couldn’t believe she ls already a senior idol with 18 years of experience in the field.

In particular, the main reason that the media met with the idol-actress was to commemorate her new Disney+ drama series, “Uncle Samsik,” where she played as the intriguing role of Rachel Jung.

Transitioning as an idol to actress, the rookie revealed her preparations and feelings about it.

“It’s still a dream-like time. I’ve said hello to people in the music, brand, and fashion fields, but this is my second time in acting. I’m having a happy and grateful time.”

She added:

“I didn’t just analyze Rachel’s character itself. I studied all the characters very hard and analyzed their relationships a lot. After looking at the characters I analyzed, the director approached Rachel with a unique idea. They praised me for making it feel more three-dimensional.”

While talking about her similarities with her role, Tiffany indirectly mentioned her reason for leaving SM Entertainment, where she practically implied that she wanted to be free and do things without someone telling her what to do.

She expressed:

“After Girls’ Generation’s 10th anniversary, I moved to the U.S. to study as well as started writing and composing songs.

I wanted to live the life of a leading artist, not something someone told me to do.

I decided that I would figure it out and I wanted to pour my passion into the stories I chose, so I was very curious.

The work called ‘Uncle Samsik’ and choosing the character ‘Rachel’ was entirely my own choice, and I think I got to see more through this project.

When I get hooked on something, I dig into it tenaciously. I was happy while working on this project.”

In October 2017, Tiffany Young left SM after SNSD’s 10th debut anniversary and at the time, the label briefly stated her reason for pursuing her solo endeavors.

In past interviews, Tiffany has always been grateful to SM but she has been hinting how the label’s lack of opportunity for self-produced idols especially among female idols limited her desire to expand in other fields.

After attaining her freedom, she attested to fans that she would still continue to promote as Girls’ Generation, on top of opening her path as an actress, composer, songwriter, fashion icon and music actress.
