NewJeans Hanni Draws Mixed Reaction for 'Too Revealing' Outfit: 'Looks Unsophisticated'

While NewJeans set the Tokyo Dome ablaze with their fiery stages, member Hanni didn’t sit well with K-netizens after a “too sexy” outfit.

Earlier on June 26th and 27th, NewJeans held their first local Japanese fan meeting, “Bunnies Camp 2024” at Tokyo Dome.

This event was held to commemorate its official debut in Japan with its first Japanese EP, “Supernatural” unveiled on June 21.

Upon its release, the quintet’s popularity in the country heated up even more, lauding the members’ high-quality songs, top-tier visuals, and charming personality.

Amid these must-celebrated achievements, some K-netizens expressed their frustration to the NewJeans, pointing out how differently the members dressed themselves outside Korea.

In SoKor, they used to dress in a more conservative manner, such as showing less skin and avoiding “sexy” ‘fits, given that there are a lot of children who are watching them diligently as well.

But in Japan, they shockingly wore “bolder” outfits, Hanni particularly gaining attention for her stage costume.

In an online community, internet users uploaded the idol’s photos wearing a long-sleeved mesh top with a leather bra top as the outerwear. She then completed the look with a layered microskirt.

In the post then, the OP wrote:

“Hanni’s exposure is too much.”

They explained:

Seeing Hanni’s appearance, some people agreed and criticized the idol’s outfit, saying:

• “The reason why the opinions are divided is because Hanni is cute, but the clothes are sexy and don’t suit her well.”
• “Why is your body like that? The dress also looks unsophisticated.”
• “The first outfit is so bad. It doesn’t suit you and it’s not pretty.”

There are even those who body-shamed the star, leaving comments such as:

• “I didn’t think much of it because it wasn’t a body that looked sexy even when dressed like that.”
• “Hey, but why is her stomach so protruding?”
• “Hanni, you have a big belly, so why do they have to make you wear such a short top? I’m so embarrassed, instead of giving it to Danielle or Hyein.”

In response, Bunnies (fandom) immediately jumped to defend the idol, highlighting that there are a lot of celebrities who also dress like that, asking why is it a problem if Hanni does it as well, considering that she’s also an adult now.
