2PM's Taecyeon to play gay lead in upcoming drama 'Soul Mate'

2PM’s Taecyeon is playing the gay lead of the upcoming Japanese Netflix drama ‘Soul Mate’.

On June 27, Netflix revealed the below teaser image along with the message, “Traversing the cities of Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo, the series tells a 10-year-long love story between two men. From writer and director Shunki Hashizume (‘Scroll’, ‘More Than Words’).” Taecyeon will be starring opposite veteran Japanese actor Hayato Isomura, who’s known for his roles in ‘Alice in Borderland’, ‘Kinou Nani Tabeta?’, ‘Kamen Rider Ghost’, and more.

Taecyeon is taking on the role of boxer Johan, who avoids facing his emotional wounds, while Isomura Hayato is playing Ryu, who left his life behind in Japan. After Johan saves Ryu’s life, the two men’s lives change forever as they learn about the meaning of love.

He expressed, “I am very happy to appear in the drama ‘Soulmate’. I had thought about wanting to discover a new side of myself by gradually expanding my spectrum through various untried characters and genres. At that time, I received the offer for ‘Soulmate’. Reading the script, I became curious about the character Hwang Johan, and even after finishing the script, I was deeply moved by the deficiencies and pains underlying Johan, which led me to choose this work. I have been dieting and boxing training since before filming, and I am continuing them during filming, putting in great effort to portray the character Johan with authenticity. I hope that viewers will anticipate and wait with excitement as well.”

‘Soul Mate’ is set to premiere in 2025.
