NewJeans Accused of Ignoring ILLIT During SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer 2024

NewJeans is drawing flak for supposedly ignoring ILLIT during the SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer 2024.

The SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer 2024 was held on July 21, 2024. Featuring some of the hottest names in the industry, like LE SSERAFIM, Stray Kids, ENHYPEN, NCT, ILLIT, and (G)I-DLE, this is one of the greatest music events in South Korea.  Although the K-pop groups in attendance showcased several memorable stages, the interactions between stars drew the public’s attention.

Notably, the SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer 2024 is the first time that LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT, and NewJeans, the three main girl groups signed to HYBE Labels, shared the same stage.

A video taken during the event that shows the interaction between ILLIT and NewJeans is currently trending on social media. For the first time since their debut at the end of March this year, ILLIT was spotted with NewJeans.

Many were excited to see the interaction between ILLIT and NewJeans on the SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer 2024 stage. However, the “awkward” environment generated a lot of online conversation. ILLIT bowed and greeted NewJeans, but their superiors appeared to ignore them, according to netizens completely.

Despite the strained history between the two groups, this incident stunned netizens. The relationship between ILLIT and NewJeans has been less than ideal since this year.

Previously, ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin claimed that ILLIT had copied the formula from NewJeans for their debut. The people strongly reacted against ILLIT after the claims.According to netizens, Min Hee Jin’s remarks about ILLIT are why NewJeans don’t like ILLIT. Their relationship is uneasy at best because of the rift that the plagiarism controversy has caused.

NewJeans were slammed for ignoring ILLIT. Bunnies (NewJeans’ fans) attempted to defend the ADOR girl group, arguing that it was understandable that no one would want to show respect for a group that had been accused of plagiarizing them. This explanation, however, did not sit well with many, and anti-fans are already utilizing the incident to spread rumors about NewJeans’s rude and conceited behavior.

Min Hee Jin’s accusations have added fuel to the fire surrounding the unresolved claim that ILLIT plagiarized NewJeans.

The company of ILLIT, BELIFT LAB, reacted by disputing the accusations and suing the Min Hee Jin for defamation. It is recommended that artists refrain from exhibiting any attitudes that might influence public opinion while the companies are embroiled in legal disputes.

In light of this, NewJeans is under fire for being conceited and rude to their juniors.
