Media outlet claims previously revealed CCTV footage is not of BTS SUGA's DUI incident

A media outlet is claiming previously revealed CCTV footage of SUGA’s DUI incident is not actually of the BTS member.

On August 14, the Dong-A Ilbo released CCTV footage of SUGA riding an electric scooter on a sidewalk at around 11:10PM KST on the 6th. The newly released video provides a clearer video of SUGA riding the scooter compared to previous CCTV footage, making it easier to understand the situation.

The footage revealed SUGA was riding the electric scooter on the sidewalk towards the condominium complex Nine One Hannam in Yongsan-gu, Seoul when he fell in front of the main gate of the building as he attempted to take a left turn and lost balance. Three police officers passing by at the moment noticed SUGA and approached him. The officers, who tried to assist him, confirmed SUGA had been drinking and attempted an on-site test. At the time of detection, SUGA’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.227%, which is above the driver’s license cancellation level.

Meanwhile, the footage of someone riding an electric scooter on the road released by JTBC is reportedly not actually of SUGA according to recent reports. It’s noted the direction the scooter rider was going in the video did not match the route SUGA took to Nine One Hannam. Additionally, the report that “SUGA hit a curb and fell” was also found to be inaccurate. There were further reports SUGA had taken a breathalyzer test on the sidewalk in front of his house, leading to allegations SUGA had lied, but these claims were also proven to be false. JTBC reportedly later made the video on their channels private.

According to police, SUGA’s movements that evening were as follows: around 9PM he had drinks with acquaintances at a restaurant in Hannam-dong, then he went to his private studio where he drank again, and then around 11PM he left the studio on the electric scooter to head to Nine One Hannam. SUGA was then found by police after he fell in front of the main gate of Nine One Hannam. The electric scooter SUGA was riding is a foldable model that cannot have its seat removed with a top speed of up to 30 km/h (18.64 mph) and a motor output of 1.2 kW. It’s reported to be classified as a “moped” under traffic laws, and SUGA is subject to criminal charges for drunk driving.

The police are expected to summon SUGA soon to continue their investigation into the drunk driving incident, and they’re coordinating with his label BIGHIT MUSIC.

SUGA is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service as a social service worker, and his discharge date is scheduled for June of next year.
