Kim Jaejoong addresses past harassment from sasaeng fans ahead of 20th anniversary album release
On June 25 KST, Kim Jaejoong held an interview at the Inkode Entertainment building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, to discuss his 20th-anniversary album ‘FLOWER GARDEN.’ During the interview, he talked about the track “Don’t” from the album, explaining that the lyrics include lines like “don’t call” and “don’t follow.”
He candidly shared his experiences, stating, “As someone who has probably been most tormented by ‘sasaeng fans’ in Korea, there were times I thought about escaping to another world if I couldn’t escape from them in this one.” He added, “I became mentally strong because of it. A decade ago, even when I was being harassed, I was blamed. Even when I was harmed by such people, I ended up at the police station and had to pay fines.”
Jaejoong referenced singer IU, who had taken a strong stance against such fans by legally challenging them. “IU once said that these people aren’t fans, and she’s right. Just because someone likes you doesn’t mean they should be forgiven for criminal behavior. IU was one of the first to change this perception.”
He continued, “Even if you like someone, you must face the consequences for criminal actions. We now live in a time where we can speak up about this confidently. Thank you, IU,” he concluded with gratitude.
Kim Jaejoong’s 20th-anniversary album ‘FLOWER GARDEN’ will be released on June 26 at 6 PM KST.
