Davichi’s Kang Min Kyung recalls high school struggles with unwanted attention

On July 22 KST, a video titled “What Happens if a Fearless Woman Goes on a Travel to the US (2)” was posted on Kang Min Kyung’s YouTube channel, “Kyang Ming Kyung.”

In the video, Kang Min Kyung talks with a high school friend at a quiet village accommodation in the U.S. She mentioned that she has about 11 high school friends she sees at least once a month. She said, “I remember arriving at school and feeling like I was being treated like a monkey.”

Although she had not debuted yet, Kang Min Kyung was known as an “Good-looking girl” on Cyworld. She explained, “I wasn’t that famous, but my homeroom teacher told everyone, ‘A celebrity trainee is coming.’ Back then, there weren’t many celebrity trainees, and there were none at our school.”

She recalled, “When I arrived at school, everyone crowded around the windows. Even though I liked attention, it was too much for me. Now, I’m used to being in front of many people, but it wasn’t like that then.”

She continued, “I wore coffee-colored stockings, but my homeroom teacher said we had to wear black stockings. So, I went to the store, bought black stockings, and went to the bathroom to change. But there was a kid watching me from above the bathroom door. I was in my adolescence, and when I got home, I told my mom, ‘I can’t keep going to this school,’ but she dismissed it, so I kept going.”

Her friend added, “In our second year, you were in our class, and it was the same situation.”

She shared, “Back then, my classmates would cover the windows with newspapers and block the doors during breaks. It was so comforting, even though we weren’t close. Their reason was ‘we’re uncomfortable,’ but it was a huge relief for me. I felt so grateful, and from then on, I felt at ease. I felt like we were friends.”
