(G)I-DLE Embroiled in Controversy Over Sexual Objectification After Wearing THIS

Cube Entertainment has since released an official statement following sexual objectification accusations against its girl group, (G)I-DLE.

On July 19, the 4th-gen K-pop leader took to KBS2’s “Music Bank” to perform their recent comeback track, Klaxon, which was released on the 8th.

On that day, they showed off their slim summer bodies wearing crop tops and shorts. But what caught the viewers’ attention the most was the details in their outfits, which included the words “LIFEGUARD” and the red cross logo.

Since they were wearing crop tops, their navels were exposed, and their shorts also revealed their legs, which immediately sparked a controversy over sexual objectification.

K-netizens who came across this responded with the following:

  • “Why on earth would they make them wear clothes like that?”
  • “This is how you sexually exploit the Red Cross?”
  • “I can’t cheer them on because of those clothes”
  • “Wear clothes like clothes should”
  • “I knew this would be a problem.”

As a lot of netters raised this concern to various social media platforms and online communities, it eventually reached the Korean Red Cross and said:

“We have never received any inquiries from the agency regarding approval for the use of the emblem. It does not appear that the Red Cross emblem was used intentionally, so we will check the relevant details and request measures to prevent a recurrence.”

The main reason why this is a huge problem is because the Red Cross prohibits unauthorized use of its logo. In May, they even started a campaign to protect it and those who will defy are subject to a fine of up to 10 million ($7.21K).

In 2023, the Red Cross has already applied trademarks for their emblem in three product categories; medicines, medical devices as well as hospitals and pharmacies.

Luckily, the Korea Red Cross didn’t ask for a fine but rather requested the agency to prevent recurrence and as a response, Cube released its official apology and attested they would actively discuss follow-up measures.

“Hello,

This is Cube Entertainment.

We would like to inform you regarding (G)I-DLE’s stage costumes during their stage for ‘Klaxon’ on KB 2TV’s ‘Music Bank’ aired on July 19.

We acknowledge that there was a problem with the stage outfits and we already reached out to the Korean Red Cross to extend our apology.

We are actively discussing measures to prevent a recurrence and follow-up measures after the apology.

Again, we would like to apologize to everyone whom we caused inconveniences following this matter.

We also express our sincere gratitude to the fans who always showed a lot of interest and support for (G)-IDLE.

Thank you.”
