Former idol turned BJ receives reduced sentence in second trial for false accusation of sexual assault
A former idol turned BJ, who was convicted of falsely accusing her agency’s CEO of attempting to sexually assault her, has had her sentence reduced in a second trial.
On June 18 KST, the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Appeals Division 4-1 overturned the original sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison for A (24), who was charged with making a false accusation. The court instead sentenced her to 1 year and 6 months in prison, suspended for 2 years, and ordered 160 hours of community service. As a result, A, who had been detained following the first trial, was released.
The court stated, “False accusation is a crime that harms others by exploiting the state’s power to punish,” adding, “Without objective evidence in this case, the accused could have been wrongfully punished.”
However, the court also noted, “The trial must consider the defendant’s life. Given her young age and lack of prior criminal record, it is meaningful to offer a chance for rehabilitation through community service rather than a prison sentence.”
A, who was once a member of a girl group and later worked as a BJ after halting her idol activities, was accused of falsely reporting in January last year that her agency’s CEO had attempted to rape her. Prosecutors, based on CCTV footage and other evidence, determined that A had falsely accused the CEO out of spite after he refused her demand to break up with his girlfriend.
