Did BABYMONSTER Reference BLACKPINK in Latest MV Teaser? Here's What Happened

Fans spotted a BLACKPINK reference in BABYMONSTER’s “FOREVER” music video teaser.

On June 25, 2024, YG Entertainment released the teaser for the music video “FOREVER,” marking BABYMONSTER’s return after just three months from their official re-debut.

Contrasting with the chic and dark tone of the first few photo teasers, the video teaser reveals all seven members showcasing a glamorous presence in a luxurious hotel setting.

In the teaser, the group’s eldest members, Chiquita and Ruka, take center stage with their compelling visuals, blending fierce personality with undeniable allure.

Additionally, a scene featuring six members sitting solemnly around Pharita sparked curiosity among BABYMONSTER’s fanbase.

The teaser’s background track, decorated with catchy beats, received much praise. This sparked hope among fans that YG Entertainment is finally placing effort into BABYMONSTER’s image.

Although the previous poster faced criticism for its dated look, this teaser’s modern sound was praised as a beacon of promise.

However, the heavy drumbeat in “FOREVER” drew mixed reviews. Some noted its resemblance to BLACKPINK’s hit “DDU-DU DDU-DU.” Others disagreed, arguing the tracks are distinctly different.

An intriguing detail caught by fans is the reappearance of a bag from a pre-debut BLACKPINK photo, labeled “BABYMONSTER,” in the teaser.

Though the photo YG Entertainment posted in 2016 had the photos edited, PSY also shared the photos to promote BLACKPINK as he was from the same company at the time.

In PSY’s post, the BABYMONSTESR logo is still visible in the bag.

This stirred speculations among fans, with some wondering if this was on purpose or if the company just decided to reuse props.

Some comments read:

  • “The track sounds way better than their other songs.”
  •  “With this release, it truly feels like summer is here. Can’t wait for what YG brings next.”
  •  “BABYMONSTER should forge its own path, not copy others, and risk being seen as just an imitation.”
  •  “That beat is so catchy, it’s bound to restore faith in the stars.”
  •  “Sounds a bit like BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU.’ YG still seems to be finding its groove.”

The release of “FOREVER” is scheduled for June 30, 2024. It serves as a pre-release track for their upcoming first studio album.

Previously, the girl group embarked on their first fan meeting tour, which started in May.

Throughout the tour, the girl group visited five regions in Asia, namely Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, and Indonesia.
