Actress Hwang Jung Eum files civil lawsuit against estranged husband amid divorce proceedings

On June 25 KST, YouTube channel ‘Behind Master’ reported that actress Hwang Jung Eum has filed a civil lawsuit against her estranged husband seeking the return of over 900 million KRW she had lent him through a personal corporation.

Hwang Jung Eum is currently embroiled in a defamation case where settlement talks have broken down. The YouTuber explained, “Hwang Jung Eum’s side offered to pay the settlement in two installments, as she did not have sufficient cash available at the moment.”

During their marriage, Hwang Jung Eum lent her husband a substantial amount through her personal corporation. However, as their divorce proceedings progressed, the likelihood of recovering this loan became uncertain, prompting her to file a lawsuit for the repayment of the borrowed funds.

Previously, Hwang Jung Eum had publicly accused her husband of infidelity, mistakenly revealing the identity of an innocent woman she believed to be involved. Although she later apologized and attempted to settle with the woman, the latter filed a defamation lawsuit against Hwang Jung Eum.

In the lawsuit, the plaintiff, identified as A, stated, “Hwang Jung Eum’s side halved the settlement amount and offered to pay it in two installments. Money was not the issue, so I accepted everything.”

However, ‘A’ raised concerns about the settlement agreement provided by Hwang Jung Eum’s side, noting the absence of a clause acknowledging Hwang Jung Eum’s defamatory and insulting actions. Additionally, ‘A’ found it unreasonable that the agreement stipulated double the compensation if the terms were breached. ‘A’ questioned Hwang Jung Eum’s sincerity, feeling that she was being treated as someone solely seeking financial gain. Consequently, ‘A’ demanded the original settlement amount.

Hwang Jung Eum’s agency has stated, “We are working to resolve the current situation amicably.”
