Thanh Ha Pottery Village busy with Tet atmosphere
The 500-year-old Thanh Ha Village in Hoi An has been busy making buffalo statues to serve this year Tet Holiday, the year of the buffalo.
The statues come in various shapes and sizes. The statues are made from clay collected near Thu Bon River. After being shaped into buffaloes, the statues will be dried from four days to a week before firing and colouring.
Vo Tan Kim Chi, a villager at Thanh Ha, said the artisans must be patient and careful with their works in order to make a beautiful statue. Firing techniques and experience are important so that the statues will not break during firing.
They also make other products including other animals and pots.
